Picciurro, Katherine (Ms Katie)   (1908 - 2003)

Picciurro, Katherine, January 24, 1908 – August, 2000.

Better known as “Miss Katie” to her restaurant patrons in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Katherine Picciurro co-founded Pitch’s Lounge chain in Milwaukee. The Picciurro family eventually grew and now have four restaurants: Pitch’s Club on Bluemound Rd., Pitchs Kansas City Style Barbecue on Bluemound Rd, Pitch’s lounge and Restaurant on N. Humboldt Blvd and last but not least, Miss Katie’s Diner on W. Clybourn St.

Miss Katie was born in Italy in 1908 and came to America when she was 6 years old with her family. She met her husband John in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and married in 1928. They opened their first restaurant together in 1942.

Miss Katie was known for her smiling face and friendly conversation to her restaurant patrons. She helped Miss Katie’s restaurant become famous for not only the food but the great atmosphere.

Katherine Picciurro died from complications of osteoporosis in August, 2000; interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI.
